You heat with a wood stove
Ash and fine soot from loading the stove drift to the nearest return grille. If that grille goes grey over a winter, the duct wall behind it usually has too, and the camera photos show how far back it goes.
Whole Home Air Duct Cleaning in Calverton is $598, regularly $798, for one system up to 2,000 square feet. Camera photos come before the price.

What it costs
The same price book as our air duct cleaning page, for a home up to 2,000 square feet on one system. We look first: the tech takes a cover off, puts a camera in and photographs what’s in your ducts, then shows you, so you see their current condition before you decide. No charge, including when yours are fine. Then you get the price in writing, then we clean.

A second system bills at 90 percent of the tier, because it’s isolated and cleaned on its own. The calculator on our air duct cleaning page does the arithmetic for a bigger house.
The dryer vent cleaning is the yearly one, and it’s in Comfort+ membership at $199 a year along with a water heater flush with a sewer camera inspection, a heating maintenance visit and a cooling maintenance visit.
What’s different in Calverton
Across Catlett’s ZIP 20119, where most Calverton houses get their mail, about half the owners heat with electricity, which in a house built since the 1970s usually means a heat pump, with the same ducts carrying heat all winter and cooling all summer. Warrenton 3 SE, the nearest long-term weather station, averages about 4,700 heating degree days a year to about 1,000 cooling: the heating season here asks more than four times what summer does, and the blower runs on through 98 freezing nights.
Close to three owners in ten heat with propane, usually a furnace with the air conditioner’s coil sitting on top of it; the ducts get the same cleaning either way. About one in eight heats with wood or another fuel. A wood stove or an insert puts fine ash into the room every time it’s loaded, and the return grilles pull that toward the system, so in a house with a stove the returns are where the camera goes first.
About one house in six in that ZIP went up before 1960, plenty of them farm and village houses that got ductwork long after they were built, threaded through a crawl space or a closet. About a quarter are from 2000 on, with flexible duct across the attic that sags where it isn’t strapped.
The County’s plan says an extensive floodplain runs through the middle of the village, and Bastable Mill Road has been closed by flooding near Brookfield Drive twice, in September 2018 and January 2024. Where ducts run through a crawl space, a wet season can put water against them. If yours took standing water, tell us when you book: the camera shows which runs are only dusty and which sat in water, and a run that sat in water is usually replaced rather than cleaned, priced before anything happens.
By the numbers
From the Census Bureau’s 2020 to 2024 survey. Median year built and heat count owner-occupied homes only.
Calverton’s own ZIP, 20138, is post office boxes only, so the Census Bureau maps no area for it. These are ZIP 20119 as a whole, the Catlett ZIP area that holds nearly nine in ten of the Calverton Census place’s homes.
When it’s worth doing
Ash and fine soot from loading the stove drift to the nearest return grille. If that grille goes grey over a winter, the duct wall behind it usually has too, and the camera photos show how far back it goes.
Which is most houses. Nobody opens a duct, so it never comes up until somebody looks.
You don’t know whether the last owners had three cats or ever took a register cover off. Most new owners want it done once, early, so they know what they’re starting with.
Choosing who cleans them
Questions to ask anybody who quotes you, us included.
In a Calverton house the runs under the floor are the ones nobody sees and the ones weather reaches. Ask for photos of those too before agreeing to a price.
Ask whether they’ll put a camera in and show you photos of what’s inside first. A price given at the door, sight unseen, is a price for the average house, not yours.
The returns are the big grilles that pull air back to the system, and they’re the side that collects dust. A job that only counts supply registers leaves half the system alone.
Ask what it covers: every supply and return, the main trunk, the blower compartment. The $59 mailbox coupon covers getting somebody into the attic.

Kwon worked hard to clean my air ducts. When he didn’t complete the job the first time due to lack of a high ladder, he came back.
Questions
Between seasons, when the system can sit off for the visit without anyone missing it: after the last spring frost, which the nearest station puts at April 9 in a typical year, or in October before the heat comes on. In a heat pump house those are the only weeks it gets a rest.
With the camera. In a house that got its ducts decades after it was built, nobody may know how they were run. The photos show what’s in them and where they go, and clean metal gets left alone.
$598 for Whole Home Air Duct Cleaning, regularly $798, on a home up to 2,000 square feet with one system, $298 for Return Air Duct Cleaning, and $1,798 with an ActivePure air scrubber installed. Dryer vent cleaning is $199 added to a duct cleaning; on its own it’s $199, normally $298, with a year of Comfort+ membership included.
Sometimes, and the camera photos are how you find out. If the duct walls are furred over, cleaning takes that out of the loop your air runs through, and the before and after are obvious. If the metal is clean, it isn’t worth doing and we’ll say so. The EPA’s position is that routine cleaning hasn’t been shown to prevent health problems, so we don’t sell it that way.
