What’s different in Lovettsville
Among the town’s owner homes the Census counts about 44 in 100 heating with propane and fewer than 8 in 100 on natural gas. Across all of ZIP 20180, farm country included, propane climbs to about 46 in 100 and natural gas drops to about 3. So a new furnace here almost always draws from a tank on the lot.

Loudoun County’s gas permit covers propane the same as natural gas, in town or out, because Virginia’s building code exempts a like-for-like swap only when the equipment doesn’t burn gas, and propane is a gas. The Town of Lovettsville zones but leaves building permits to the County, so the permit is the County’s alone.
