Second opinion checklist

  1. Same system, fresh eyesWe test the equipment you were quoted on, not a generic checklist.
  2. Does the diagnosis hold up?If they said the compressor is gone, we check the compressor. Then we tell you what we found.
  3. Repair or replace, said straightIf it can be fixed, we tell you what it takes. If it really is done, we say that too.
  4. Our price, if you want itSomething you can hold next to the quote you already have.
  5. No pressureIf their quote is fair, keep it. You don’t owe us anything for looking.

Before you sign

Looks like a goner? Often it isn’t.

Here’s what we find behind a lot of the replace-it-all quotes in Northern Virginia, and the times replacing really is the right call.

Check first

The quote you gotWhat we check first

  1. AC blowing warm air: replace the systemOften a capacitor, a dirty coil or low refrigerant.
  2. Turns on and off all day: replace the systemOften a capacitor, a clogged filter or the thermostat.
  3. Outside unit buzzing: replace the condenserOften a worn capacitor or fan motor. A part, not a system.
  4. Iced-up coil, high power bill: new systemUsually airflow or a low charge. A cleaning often fixes both.
  5. Water heater leaking: replace itFind where. A leaking valve or fitting is a repair. A leaking tank is not.
  6. Slow drains: dig up the sewer lineA camera inspection shows what’s actually in the line first.

When replacing is the right call

  • A cracked heat exchangerOn a furnace that’s a carbon monoxide risk. We don’t patch it.
  • A dead compressor on an old R-22 systemR-22 isn’t made any more, and the repair can cost more than the system is worth.
  • A coil that keeps leaking refrigerantRefilling a system that won’t hold a charge is money down the drain.
  • A water heater tank that’s leakingOnce the tank itself leaks, there’s no fixing it.
  • Rusted through, or broken again and againPast its service life with breakdown after breakdown, replacing is usually the honest answer.

A second opinion isn’t about talking you out of a new system. It’s making sure that if you spend the money, you spend it on the right thing.

From our Google reviews

Neighbors who got a second look first

We initially had him look at something we were getting a second opinion about and he saved us from spending a lot of money that the first plumber told us we needed done. He showed us exactly what the issue was (which was not what the first plumber told us it was) and how a much simpler and cheaper solution resolved the issue.

Aiden Fiero, Google review, plumbing

I have a really old system, and every other company I called immediately tried to sell me a full replacement which really isn’t an option for me. SwiftPro actually listened to what I wanted and worked with what I had. They gave me a repair option, were honest about everything, and got my system through one of the coldest times of the year.

Taylor Thomas, Google review, heating

Moises is honest and extremely knowledgeable. He’s kept my old HVAC system running through brutal summers and frigid winters. When other companies provided expensive repair quotes, he offered second opinions that saved me thousands of dollars.

Mark Jeschke, Google review, heating and cooling

When I explained that I was only wanting to have my A/C and HVAC unit repaired, not replaced, Elvis understood. He didn’t pressure me into replacing my HVAC and A/C unit like technicians from other companies have done in the past. Instead, he focused on repairing my A/C unit.

Chris MacRae, Google review, AC repair

I hired SwiftPro to inspect my HVAC system for a second opinion. I highly recommend SwiftPro based on my interaction of all staff members.

Janice Aucella, Google review, AC second opinion

Moises came out to assess our furnace. Despite it being over 18 years old, he gave us a fair price on a fix and attempted to do a free adjustment to the fan so we could use the heat for another day or two. Unfortunately our furnace was too far gone for that. We decided to replace it and he was very good at explaining the work that was needed and quoted a fair price for a higher end product. Much cheaper than the other company that came out. No pressure, just friendly, helpful and fair priced.

Lisa Dejo, Google review, furnace

SwiftPro does not write, edit, buy or remove customer reviews, and does not offer any incentive in exchange for one. These are published as the customer wrote them, trimmed only for length.

Questions people ask first

Is the second opinion really free?

Yes. We come out, look at the system you were quoted on and tell you what we find, at no charge. If you want us to do the work, you get our price first and you decide.

Do I need the other company’s quote?

It helps, because we can check their diagnosis line by line, but you don’t need it. Add a photo in the form, or just have it handy when we come.

Will you try to sell me a new system?

Only if that’s what your system actually needs. Plenty of second opinions end with a repair, or with us telling you the first quote was fair.

What if the first quote was fair?

Then we’ll say so. You’ll have heard it from two companies, and you can sign without wondering.

How soon can you come?

Our office calls or texts to set up a time that works for you. If something has stopped working and you need help today, call (703) 997-9757.

Who comes out?

A SwiftPro technician from our HVAC team or our plumbing team, depending on the system. Look for the wrapped SwiftPro van with our Virginia Class A license, 2705192276, on the side.

Where do you work?

All over Northern Virginia, including Alexandria, Ashburn, Bristow, Burke, Centreville, Chantilly, Clifton, Fairfax, Fairfax Station, Falls Church, Great Falls, Herndon, McLean, Oakton, Reston, South Riding, Springfield, Sterling, Vienna and Woodbridge.

Before you sign, let us look.
