Pipe Replacement Under the Sink and Out at the Yard Cleanout

Pipe replacement doesn't stop at the cabinet. This clip goes from the plumbing under a kitchen sink, beside the disposal, out to a cleanout in the yard where a drain snake is run, and back to a sink running clear.

What you’re seeing in this video

A SwiftPro tech in a black beanie and orange-cuffed gloves works under a kitchen sink, right next to the garbage disposal, with a cordless power tool. Kitchen drains take grease and food scraps daily, so the pipe under there takes more abuse than most.

Outside, a cleanout pipe sticks up from a dirt bed beside the house, and a drain snake, a long spinning cable, goes down it. The cleanout is the capped access point to the main line, so a plumber can clear or check the whole run without going through a fixture.

Last shot: water running into the stainless sink. That test after the work is how you know the new connections hold and drain.

Why it matters in your house

  • Find your outside cleanout before you need it. It's usually a capped pipe a few inches tall near the foundation, and a plumber will ask where it is.
  • Kitchen drain pipes that are cracked, corroded or patched with tape are worth replacing, not resealing. Under-sink leaks rot cabinet floors slowly.
  • If more than one fixture is backing up, the trouble is past the sink, often in the main line the cleanout serves.

How do I know if my pipes need replacing?

Repeat leaks, corrosion you can see at joints, rusty or discolored water, and pressure that's dropped over the years are the big four. One leak can be a repair. When the same system keeps leaking, replacing it usually beats chasing leaks one at a time and fixing the water damage each one leaves behind.
