Pipe Replacement Process, From the Water Heater to the Kitchen Tap

A pipe replacement process has three stages you'll see here: deal with the failing parts, fit new valves and pipe, then run water at the fixtures to prove it. This clip moves from the water heater to the kitchen sink.

What you’re seeing in this video

A SwiftPro tech with a long dark beard stands beside a water heater and holds a small clear plastic part up to the camera. The water heater is where a lot of supply piping starts, so it's a common first stop.

Two techs in shoe covers kneel on a tiled floor and open the box on a new valve, pipe wrenches laid out next to them. Valves let you shut off one section of plumbing without killing water to the whole house, and new pipe usually gets new valves with it.

It ends at a kitchen sink with the water running, the test that the new work flows and holds.

Why it matters in your house

  • Ask which valves get replaced along with the pipe. An old shutoff that won't close all the way is a problem you only find out about in an emergency.
  • Shoe covers and wrenches laid out on a drop zone are small things, but they tell you how a crew treats the rest of your house.
  • After any pipe work, run each faucet for a minute. Air and loose sediment clear out, and you'll spot a slow drip early.

Should I replace my shutoff valves when I replace pipes?

Usually, yes. Old multi-turn valves seize up or won't close fully, and you find out at the worst time. If the walls or cabinets are already open for new pipe, swapping the valves is little extra work. Quarter-turn ball valves close fully with one motion, so anyone in the house can shut the water off fast.
