  • Shoe covers on a furnace job mean the installers plan to walk through your house a dozen times without tracking it up. Notice whether yours bring them.
  • A gas furnace swap usually fits in a day, but the checks that keep it safe, like the gas leak test, the flue draft test and a combustion reading, take real minutes. Fast is fine; skipped is not.
  • Ask to see the startup numbers when the job wraps. Gas pressure and temperature rise on a new furnace should land inside the range on the label inside the door.

A straight furnace or AC swap with the same footprint usually takes one day. A full system, furnace and AC together, often runs one to two days. New ductwork, a relocation or a switch to a heat pump can add more. A time lapse makes it look like minutes, but the startup tests at the end deserve their full time.
