An old AC unit that's quit working and lost its efficiency usually gets replaced along with the indoor coil, not by itself. A SwiftPro tech explains exactly that beside the old condenser on a townhouse lawn.

What you’re seeing in this video
A SwiftPro tech in a black polo stands on a townhouse lawn next to the old outdoor unit he's about to haul away. Behind him are boxed new equipment and a Trane-branded SwiftPro pickup.
He gives the reasons in plain terms: the old unit is outdated, it's stopped working, and it isn't as efficient as it used to be. The plan is a new outdoor unit plus a new coil inside the house, and then the crew dollies the equipment in and gets to work.

What they say on camera
Hey guys, how's it going? My name is Ronnie, guys pro. Anyways, we're here today. We got rid of this old unit.
So, what we're doing today is we're installing a brand new one, right? And a brand new coil on the inside of the house. The reason why we got rid of this guy is because number one, it's outdated. And number two, it's no longer working.
It's not as efficient as it was before. So, me and the guys, we got a brand new unit. We got inside the van, and uh we're just going to go ahead dolly it in there and get stuff done.
Why it matters in your house
The indoor coil and outdoor unit are a matched pair. A new condenser on an old coil can cut efficiency, put warranty coverage at risk and leave you with a refrigerant mismatch.
Efficiency fades with age. Worn compressors, dirty coils and small leaks mean an old AC runs a little longer every year to do the same job.
If your outdoor unit was built before 2010, it probably runs on R-22. That alone makes most big repairs a poor bet.
Can I replace just my old outdoor AC unit?
Sometimes, but rarely the right call on an old system. A new condenser is designed around a matching indoor coil, and older coils were built for a different refrigerant and different pressures. Mixing them often costs efficiency and can void the new unit's warranty. Replacing both at once is the norm for good reason.
