A Navien Tankless Water Heater, Delivered and Unboxed

A tankless install brings more than the heater. This clip follows a boxed Navien NPE-A2 from the van to the utility room, where a second tech unpacks the fittings and parts that go on with it.

What you’re seeing in this video

A SwiftPro van is parked at the house beside a brick pillar, and a tech in a SwiftPro hoodie and cap rolls a boxed Navien NPE-A2 down off the back on a hand truck. One person handles it alone, which tells you how much smaller a wall-hung tankless unit is than a 50-gallon tank.

Inside, a younger tech in a grey hoodie kneels in the utility room and starts pulling parts out of the packaging. The NPE-A2 is a condensing tankless model, so the job needs PVC venting, a condensate drain line and isolation valves for future service, not just a hookup to the gas and water.

Why it matters in your house

  • A condensing tankless heater exhausts cool enough to vent through PVC out a side wall, which frees up the old chimney flue and opens spots a tank could never use.
  • Isolation valves on the water lines let a tech descale a tankless heater without cutting pipe. Skip them at install and every yearly cleaning gets harder.
  • Gas tankless units fire a much bigger burner than a tank, so the gas line size gets checked before anything mounts on the wall.

What parts go in with a tankless water heater install?

The heater, then the parts that make it last: venting (PVC on a condensing model), a condensate drain, isolation valves for flushing, a gas shutoff and union, and usually new copper or PEX to the wall. A good install also confirms the gas line is big enough, since a tankless burner draws far more gas than a tank does.
