In Manassas, a heating repair diagnostic is $99, and most furnace and heat pump repairs run $95 to $1,180: a flame sensor cleaned is $95 to $180, an igniter replaced $240 to $410, a control board $550 to $1,180. Each one is priced in writing before the work starts, at the same price in the City of Manassas, Manassas Park and the Prince William County side, and every common fix is listed on the Manassas furnace and heat pump repair page.

What sets Manassas apart is what’s doing the heating. Inside the City, about half of owner-occupied homes heat with electricity, which in a house that age usually means a heat pump with electric backup strips. Past the city line gas leads, and out toward Buckhall some houses burn propane. So “no heat” in Manassas can be three different calls, and the fix, the price and even the permit change with each one.

What heating repair costs in Manassas

These are the ranges from our price book, the same in every town we serve. The technician finds the cause first, writes the repair price down, and you decide before anything gets replaced.

Repair Price
Heating or cooling diagnostic visit $99
Flame sensor cleaned $95 to $180
Condensate drain cleared, trap and switch added $175 to $420
Run capacitor replaced $240 to $370
Igniter or flame sensor replaced $240 to $410
Contactor replaced $290 to $425
Blower wheel pulled and cleaned $300 to $440
Thermostat replaced $300 to $640
Defrost board replaced $450 to $1,150
Control board replaced $550 to $1,180
Blower motor replaced $670 to $2,400

When a big repair lands on an old system, put the replacement number beside it. A gas furnace by itself, keeping the air conditioner you have, is $4,285 to $14,040 installed. From about $71 a month at 0% APR for 60 months, the whole price financed, on approved credit. A heat pump system is $8,499 to $21,650 installed. From about $142 a month at 0% APR for 60 months, the whole price financed, on approved credit.

Our rule of thumb: fix the small parts on almost any furnace or heat pump. A big repair on one past 15 or 20 years deserves a replacement price next to it, and the technician puts both numbers in front of you. The HVAC estimator gives the installed range for your house size before anyone visits.

Who can fix the heat tonight or on a Sunday in Manassas

SwiftPro runs 24/7 emergency service for no heat, no cooling and leaks, in the City, in Manassas Park and on the county side, and someone answers (703) 997-9757 at 2 a.m., holidays included. Often same-day, and we will tell you honestly when we can get there. There are no distance fees anywhere we work.

Before you call, five quick checks:

  1. The thermostat is on Heat, set above the room temperature, and its screen is lit. A blank screen can be dead batteries, or a tripped float switch on the condensate drain cutting the power.
  2. The furnace switch, the light switch on or near the furnace, is on, and so is its breaker.
  3. The filter isn’t packed solid. A clogged one can shut a furnace down on high temperature.
  4. The furnace door is fully closed. A safety switch behind it keeps the burners off while the door is loose.
  5. On a heat pump, the outdoor unit isn’t a block of ice at midday. If it is, switch the thermostat to Emergency Heat and call.

If you smell gas, skip the list: leave the house, call the gas company’s emergency line from outside, then call us. If a carbon monoxide alarm is sounding, get everyone out and call 911.

What breaks in Manassas heating systems

Heat pumps inside the City. The City’s median owner home was built in 1985, and about half of its owners heat with electricity. On those systems, an aux or emergency heat light that stays on for hours on a mild day usually means the backup strips are doing the heat pump’s work, and the electric bill is where it shows. A heat pump iced over at noon usually needs its defrost board ($450 to $1,150), and a failed run capacitor ($240 to $370) stops the outdoor unit in any season.

Gas furnaces on the county side. In Sudley, Yorkshire and Loch Lomond, gas heats more than half of owner homes, and most no-heat calls there come down to the flame sensor, the igniter, the inducer motor or a pressure switch. A furnace that lights and shuts off a few seconds later usually has a dirty flame sensor. A high-efficiency furnace that quits on the coldest nights often has a clogged or frozen condensate line ($175 to $420).

Propane toward Buckhall, and Manassas Park. Buckhall burns more propane than anywhere else on the county side, and propane furnaces get the same repairs from the same price book. We don’t work on oil burners. Manassas Park, its own city inside 20111, is younger (its median owner home dates to 1993), and seven in ten of its owners heat with gas.

Recent heating repairs in Manassas

From our technicians’ notes on jobs closed out in Manassas, with the month and ZIP code and nothing that names a customer:

  • October 2026, Manassas 20110. A two-zone heat pump with both thermostats switched off: turned back on in heat, both zone dampers checked, and the fan set back to auto. Two thermostats in different modes make the zone board fight itself, so both now run the same mode.
  • February 2026, Manassas 20112. No heat: the burners lit and shut right back off. The flame sensor was heavily coated; cleaned, the furnace ran through its full cycle and kept heating.
  • December 2025, Manassas 20110. No heat from a shorted gas valve on a gas furnace. A new valve went in and was tested, and the furnace heated the way it should.

How to pick a heating company in Manassas

Four checks before anyone opens your furnace, whoever you call:

  1. The license. Virginia’s contractor board keeps a public license lookup: search the company’s name and make sure the license is current. SwiftPro’s is Virginia Class A 2705192276, printed on the side of every van.
  2. Who pulls the permit. Replacing a gas furnace takes a permit inside the City, where the mechanical permit covers it, and in Prince William County, which lists gas furnace replacements among the permits always required. The City’s advice to owners is to have the contractor get the permit, because the permit holder answers for the work.
  3. The price in writing first. A diagnostic, then a written price for the repair you approve. If a quote names a control board on a furnace that lights and drops out, ask whether the flame sensor was cleaned first.
  4. Reviews on more than one site. SwiftPro holds 5.0 stars across 1,132 reviews on Google, Angi, Yelp, the BBB and Facebook. Our reviews page lists every platform’s own score, Yelp’s 4.4 included, the lowest of them.

Where we come from: our shop is on Lafayette Center Drive in Chantilly, about eleven miles from Manassas, and the van that comes to you is usually coming from the last job, not from the shop. More of our Manassas visits are replacement estimates than in most towns we serve, which is why this post puts the replacement prices right beside the repair ones.

How much does furnace repair cost in Manassas?

Most furnace and heat pump repairs we make in Manassas run $95 to $1,180, after a $99 diagnostic. A flame sensor cleaned is $95 to $180, an igniter replaced $240 to $410, and a blower motor $670 to $2,400. The price is in writing before work starts, the same in the City, Manassas Park and the county.

Who can fix my furnace tonight or on a Sunday in Manassas?

SwiftPro, at (703) 997-9757. SwiftPro runs 24/7 emergency service for no heat, someone answers the phone at 2 a.m., holidays included, and there are no distance fees. Often same-day, and we will tell you honestly when we can get there.

Why is my heat pump’s aux heat on all the time?

Aux heat is the electric backup strips. On a mild day they should barely run, so a light that stays on for hours usually means the heat pump isn’t carrying the load: low refrigerant, a defrost problem, a failing outdoor unit, or a thermostat never set up for a heat pump. A defrost board is $450 to $1,150; a run capacitor $240 to $370.

My furnace lights, then shuts off after a few seconds. What’s wrong?

Most often a dirty flame sensor. The furnace can’t prove the flame is lit, so it shuts the gas off for safety and tries again. Cleaning it is $95 to $180; if the sensor is worn out, replacing it is $240 to $410.

Do you repair propane furnaces and heat pumps in Manassas?

Yes. We repair gas and propane furnaces, heat pumps and air conditioners across the City, Manassas Park and the county side, all from one price book. We don’t work on oil burners.

Do I need a permit to replace a furnace in Manassas?

For a gas furnace, yes: the City of Manassas counts it as mechanical permit work, and Prince William County lists it among the permits always required. An electric heat pump swapped for the same type in the same spot doesn’t need one in the City or the county. The contractor should be the one who pulls it.

How do I pick a heating company in Manassas?

Check the Virginia license on the state’s public lookup, ask who pulls the permit, get the repair price in writing before work starts, and read reviews on more than one site. SwiftPro’s license is Virginia Class A 2705192276, and it holds 5.0 stars across 1,132 reviews on Google, Angi, Yelp, the BBB and Facebook.

Should I repair or replace an old furnace?

Fix the small parts on almost any furnace. A big repair on one past 15 or 20 years deserves a replacement price beside it: a gas furnace alone, keeping your air conditioner, is $4,285 to $14,040 installed. From about $71 a month at 0% APR for 60 months, the whole price financed, on approved credit. One exception: a cracked heat exchanger is never a repair at any price, and our post on cracked heat exchangers and carbon monoxide shows how to tell the diagnosis is real.
