Why does my house have two outdoor AC units?
Usually because it has two separate systems, each with its own thermostat and indoor unit. Larger homes split the load, often one system for the main level and basement and one for the upstairs. That keeps bedrooms from running hot in summer, and if one system fails, the other still cools part of the house.
