HVAC Technician Camera Roll: Condensers, Plenums and One Sweaty Selfie

An HVAC technician's camera roll is mostly equipment: new condensers, open furnaces, ductwork. The lone selfie here is the owner, sweating in the sun. Those job photos are useful to you, too.

What you’re seeing in this video

The joke is a phone full of work pictures. First up, a new AC condenser sitting on a driveway beside a brick house, hand truck still next to it. Then a close-up selfie of Tyler Griffin, SwiftPro's owner, red-faced and sweating in the sun.

The last shot drops into a basement. A tech in a red headlamp looks up at the supply plenum, the sheet metal box on top of the furnace that feeds air into the ducts, checking how it's built and sealed before anything new goes in.

Why it matters in your house

  • Job photos protect you. Before shots of your old equipment and the data plate on the new unit help with warranty registration and any question that comes up years later.
  • Ask your tech to share pictures of places you won't crawl into yourself, like the plenum, the attic air handler or the condensate drain. Seeing it beats taking someone's word.
  • A tech who photographs the plenum before work starts is checking whether the new equipment will match the duct connection. That's planning ahead.

Should my HVAC tech take pictures of my system?

Yes, and you should ask for copies. Good techs photograph the old equipment, the model and serial plates, and anything they find wrong, then the finished install. Those pictures show what was done, help with warranty claims, and give the next tech a head start if you ever need service.
