How do I know when to replace my sump pump?
Go by age first, then behavior. Most pumps give 7 to 10 years. Replace sooner if it's noisy, cycles constantly, won't start during a bucket test, or the pit is full of sludge and rust. If you don't know its age, look for a date on the label or an old receipt, or have a plumber look before storm season.
